PR: IWSC awards Cantina Valpolicella Negrar as best Italian producer 2013

We receive this press release from Cantina Valpolicella Negrar:

The United Kingdom’s independent International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), one of the world’s most prestigious drinks events, has awarded the coveted Best Italian Wine Producer of the Year trophy to the Negrar (Verona) cooperative winery.

Cantina Valpolicella Negrar will be appearing at the Anteprima Amarone 2010 festival with a wine that has “a harmonious nose and vibrant sophistication”. The cooperative winery will also be at Amarone in Villa, a wine-tasting bonanza hosted by sommelier Luca Gardini on 23 January 2014.

Anteprima Amarone, a celebration of this internationally renowned Verona wine, will be held on 25 and 26 January 2014, and as ever is attracting great media and public attention.

This year sees the debut of the Amarone 2010 vintage, the first to enjoy Italy’s Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin (DOCG) classification. One of the many producers exhibiting at the Palazzo della Gran Guardia in Verona, Cantina Valpolicella Negrar arrives fresh from winning the Best Italian Wine Producer of the Year 2013 trophy at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), one of the world’s most prestigious, selective and independent drinks events. The Verona cooperative winery was awarded the trophy on the basis of the wines it released in 2013.

Open to the public. Wine-lovers will be able to experience Anteprima Amarone on the afternoon of Saturday 25 January (4 pm – 7 pm) and all day Sunday 26 January (10 am – 6 pm). Tickets cost €25 and can be purchased from info@consorziovalpolicella.it. However, the winery’s 2010 Amarone will not be the only wine on display, as Cantina Valpolicella Negrar will also be showcasing its excellent Amarone Vigneti di Jago 2007.

Amarone 2010: a vintage of great value. “Our 2010 vintage is fresher than previous years,” says Daniele Accordini, the director of Cantina Valpolicella Negrar. “The climate of our Negrar Valley has produced wine with a lower alcohol content than 2009, but the result is more elegant. What’s more, its good acidity means that it will age exceptionally well. Daniele Accordini will be presenting the winery’s Amarone 2010 in his role as an oenologist and deputy chairman of the Consortium for the Tutelage of Valpolicella Wines. “Our Amarone 2010,” continues Accordini, “has a wonderfully harmonious nose, but its vibrant sophistication is what makes it a vintage of great value for our winery.”

A not repeatable experience for the palate. The well-known and multi-talented sommelier Luca Gardini will be presenting the Amarone in Villa wine-tasting event, which will be held on Thursday 23 January 2014 from 5 pm to 11 pm at Villa De Winckels in Marcenigo di Tregnago, Verona. For information, please call +39 045 6500133. Tickets cost €40 per person and include a tasting of wines and traditional local products. Cantina Valpolicella Negrar will also be appearing at Amarone in Villa with its very own gem Amarone Vigneti di Jago 2000. It will be affording wine-lovers an insight into the many faces of the Valpolicella Classica region with its Amarone Espressioni 2005 range. This selection of five Amarone wines embodies the hallmarks of each one’s terroir, the five valleys of the Valpolicella Classica region (Negrar, San Pietro in Cariano, Marano, Fumane and Sant’Ambrogio), where the majority of the winery’s 230 partners have their vineyards.
